Storytelling and uncovering truth are at the forefront of what what I’m interested in. As a theatre artist, they way I approach work comes from a pursuit of truth, community and a deep commitment to storytelling. I’m a storyteller- and the way I engage with theatre is a practice of authentic and collaborative community-building, movement, and artistic media. As a visual artist and composer, I look at the way that things converge, whether it be different motifs in a music movement or an oil painting with a photograph, I find myself curious about the “space in between.”
Always a lover of the interdisciplinary, I practice as a musician, theatre artist, visual artist, storyteller and activist deeply interested in the connection between rural, urban and international art practice. As a scholar, my research is in both the arts and in community development. You can read more about it in my thesis: The Art of Connecting. In 2018, Amy Brooks and I co-founded and became the Co-Artistic Director of Cardinal Cross Arts Company, the betwixt-and-between Appalachian-New York feminist misfit theater which is a growing womxn-led, interdisciplinary team of writers, directors, producers, performers, dramaturgs, and creative artists.
Right now, I’m the Company Manager at Beth Morrison Projects and have previously worked with South Central Music + Arts academy, TimeSlips Creative Storytelling, HERE Arts Center, PROTOTYPE: Opera, Theatre, Now festival, Looking for Lilith Theatre Company in Louisville, KY, and Arts in the Gap. I also am consistently making and facilitating my own storytelling workshops like “Living Stories” and “Music Within” around devised storytelling and community songwriting.
I’ve had the privilege to share stories with folk at the International Storytelling Center, Big Sandy Technical College, in Northern Ireland and in the Moth's Young Women's Voices festival. I believe in the power of story and hope to help foster a narrative of strength for women and unheard voices. I live somewhere between Appalachia and NYC with my two fur-babies Gypsy and Jasper.
